The Sexual(and soceital) Rebellion!

I don't know about you all but I am pretty excited and pumped for the remake of Ranma 1/2 coming out in October!  I mean this anime/manga series has an amazing story that must be shared with EVERYONE!  Now if you are familiar with this series you know the story, but lets say you have zero idea of what Ranma 1/2 is even about, allow me to explain!  You see that guy with the black hair?  That's Ranma Saotome, he is a skilled martial artist who is constantly pushing himself.  One day him and his father were doing some extreme training near cursed pools of water because why not!  Ranma gets knocked into a pool of water and is cursed, as a result anytime he is splashed with cold water, he becomes a woman(the one with the red hair), but if he is splashed with hot water he becomes a man again.

Yet despite the hilarity that comes with this series, even though Ranma will look like a woman, he doesn't change how he acts around people.  His appearance and genitalia may change but he knows who he is on the inside, which is the most important part.  He knows he is a man, and continues to live his life as a man (except for that one episode where he thought he was a woman and wanted to live as a woman).  But the fact of the matter is Ranma serves as an example that you act and present in a way that feels right to you, and not what society expects/demands of you.

Even though times are different and things have changed significantly, society still tends to push the whole toxic masculinity narrative of "The man must be in charge", above all else.  I mean lets be honest it is 1000% the reason we have never had a woman as a president in the United States!  This idea that a man being under a woman is wrong and that men must be on top and dominate everything in everywhere that is considered "masculine".  Men have to be the bread winner and and can do whatever they want because they are "The Man".  That sort or idea and narrative sets men up for failure and mental anguish later down the road.  James Bond (specfically Sean Connery's) and Yujiro Hanma (Baki the Grappler), are 2 pure example of toxic masculinity as both of them are all about doing what they feel like doing and not even caring about who it hurts.  It's all about "I'm a man, it's what I am entitled".

In terms of movies and other media when sex is involved, the focus quickly becomes "Damn, he really knows how to fuck" or "Shit, he is pounding hard at her, she'll never see anyone like him".  OK, for starters yes, that is hella gross but it is a thing that happens and gets perpetuated constantly.  Dick sizes, how long is he pounding at the woman, how he is taking charge and command, him being on top giving the commands, and more.  These are the frequent focus of what happens during sex scenes.  Meanwhile with women it is never if she enjoyed it thoroughly or was able to be completely be satisfied as the man was; its just a one way ticket to pound town.  Personally that sounds boring and not as fun; like a cake that's all icing but hardly any cake.  But unfortunately this is the notation society tries to push; it's seen in anime, movies, video games and more.  However.......this doesn't stop us from going against what is told of us and rebelling against these norms!

Yes, you heard it, we do not have to let these societal stereotypes run and dictate how men and women and those in between have to act/present!  I know a good chunk of media does focus on men and their dominating force.  But there is a decent amount of media that shows men and women doing role reversals!  We have seen women in the forefront taking command and being that dominating force who does what they want and making sure people follow.  These are stories we need more of to encourage change in our everyday life!  Yes, I know these are fictional stories, but sometimes the fictional stories can be huge motivators for us to be better and to improve!

This is why I love being a nerd, because you have a plethora of examples of women being in roles where they are dominant over men!  Take the picture in the top left, that is Olivier Mira Armstrong, from the anime Fullmetal Alchemist:  Brotherhood!  She is the Major General of Fort Briggs; who leads by far one of the toughest soldiers in all the military!  Next to her is Jolyne Kujo from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 6:  Stone Ocean.  Jolyne was originally a naive bad girl who fell for the wrong guy and ended up in jail.  Now she vows to break out with the power of Jimi Hendrix (Trust me, it's a Jojo thing lol) and get revenge on the people who wish to do harm to her and her family.  Right below Jolyne is Captain Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek Discovery, a decorated Starfleet Captain who is both loving and hard to the people who sever under her, but if I am being very honest, her mirror universe counterpart is much more dominate and kinky!  Finally we have Xena:  Warrior Princess next to the captain, who might I say is just.......amazing!!!!  I mean she's a warrior princess who did her own thing and did not give a care about what others thought!  It's kind of funny, Xena was a spin off of Hercules:  The Legendary Journeys, yet ironically Xena is more popular than Hercules!

This dominating personality does not have to exist in just social situations, it can be in sexual situations too, take Game of Thrones, where Daenerys established in her marriage with Khal Drogo that in the bedroom she is the dominant one on top, while he is the submissive one.  That scene is so unique because earlier he was being dominant in EVERYTHING, but he was drawn to her more the moment when she took command!  I was talking to my friend who is a sex worker and she told me, that a lot of men love it when she is on top and taking command.  This is something that you rarely hear about or see in general, and honestly it's fucking awesome (Hah, wordplay)!

Out of curiosity, I took a BDSM test to se where I land around in terms of being dominant and submissive, and well.....you see the results for yourself!  I know I tend to look more masculine at times but despite that, I tend to be more of a mix of masculine and feminine...hell I feel more feminine than masculine on average.  I always say if I ever date anyone, I would more that happy be someone's arm candy, and I have no problems being submissive either.  I guess with me, I just defy all societal logic as a whole!  But at the end of the day, whether you are a lady, a bro, or a non binary hoe, just be what feels right to you, don't pay any attention to what society demands of you!
